
Stop Letting Your Sidel SF300 Oven Slow You Down
If you’re running an older Sidel Combi SF300, you probably know the feeling. You want to push the machine harder, but the heating oven just can’t keep up. Your preforms aren’t hitting the right temperature consistently, and suddenly, your cycle speed takes a hit. It’s frustrating. But here’s the thing: you don’t need to scrap the whole machine. Usually, the quickest fix is just swapping out those tired old lamps for precision infrared elements. It’s the fastest way to get your capacity back. Getting the heat right It all comes down to how the plastic absorbs energy. We use short-wave infrared because PET loves it. High-wattage halogen tubes focus that energy into a tight beam that sinks deep into the preform wall. You want that heat to soak in, not just sear the surface. But a word of caution: if you crank the wattage too high without tweaking your blower timing, you’ll end up overheating the neck ring. Balance is everything. No headaches during install We made these lamps as simple “drop-in” replacements. They use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they plug right into your existing wiring. No custom brackets, no weird adapters. We also used reinforced quartz glass. These ovens are brutal environments with constant temperature swings, and these lamps are built to take that beating. Plus, we added specific coatings that push the heat forward into the plastic, instead of letting it bleed out into the machine frame. What this looks like on the floor Once these are in, you can bump up your conveyor speeds without worrying about the plastic warping or losing quality. You get a much tighter, more predictable heat profile. Just one heads-up. More power means more ambient heat. If you go for the highest wattage available, take a look at your cooling fans. If your vents are clogged or just too small, the oven housing will soak up all that extra heat. That’s a recipe for fried electrical sensors. Just make sure your cooling can handle the heat you’re putting in.
