
Getting Your SACMI Rotary Heaters Up to Speed
If you’re running SACMI rotary blow molding machines, you know they move fast. Like, really fast. The problem is, when your heating bulbs can’t keep up and hit that target temperature the second they’re needed, things go south. You end up with uneven heating in your preforms and those annoying wall thickness defects that scrap your product. It’s a headache nobody wants. That’s why we built our PET blowing bulbs to handle these kinds of rapid-fire cycles. Cutting out the lag Nobody likes waiting around for a machine to warm up. To kill that startup lag, we played around with the filament mass and voltage balance. By using a high-wattage, high-voltage setup, these lamps hit their operating temp in seconds. They’re also built to take the punch of those sudden current spikes that happen in rotary systems. You get a faster ramp-up, less downtime, and way more control over that tricky glass transition phase of the PET plastic. The nitty-gritty: Quartz and Connectors We used heavy-wall quartz glass for a reason: it doesn’t bow when the heat gets intense. Inside, there’s a halogen cycle that keeps the filament from evaporating too quickly. It means the bulb lasts longer, even when you’re pushing it to the absolute limit. As for the fit, we stuck with standard R7s or Sk15 bases. They’re simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. Plus, they ensure a tight electrical connection, so you don’t have to deal with arcing at the terminals—which is usually where things fail when the machine starts vibrating at high speeds. A few things to keep in mind Here’s the deal: these bulbs put out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for high-speed lines, but it’s tough on your reflectors. If your reflectors are dirty or pitted, the heat just bounces straight back into the bulb. That’s a recipe for a premature burnout. Keep your oven housing clean, or you’ll be replacing bulbs way more often than you should. And one last tip? Keep an eye on your power supply. These tubes are sensitive. If your power feed is “dirty” or fluctuating, it’ll eat away at the filament life. Keep the power steady, and these bulbs will take care of you.
